Who Alefba is for
Alefba is for children who hear Persian at home but can't yet read it or answer back with confidence, and for anyone starting from zero. Many families in the US, Canada, the UK and Europe want their children to talk with grandparents and cousins in Persian. Alefba is built for exactly that.
What your child learns
- The Persian alphabet: all 32 letters, one at a time, with each letter's shapes, a word that uses it, and tracing practice.
- 188 everyday words: family, food, school, greetings and more, many recorded by a real Persian speaker, each with an example sentence.
- Spoken Persian, not just book Persian: Alefba shows how a word is written in books (خانه, khâne) and how people really say it (خونه, khune), side by side.
- Finglish to start: Persian words are shown in English letters too (like salâm), until your child can read the Persian script.
- 36 short conversations: meet a new classmate, talk with a grandmother, play at the park, grouped by level.
Word meanings can be shown in English, French, German, Swedish or Chinese.
Practice talking with AI
In a talk, your child chats in Persian with a friendly character, such as a classmate or a grandmother, at their own level. The character helps when they're stuck and gently shows a better way to say things. Every talk is labeled AI, the chats aren't saved, and a parent signs in first. Is there a Duolingo for Persian?
As of 2026, Duolingo doesn't offer a Persian (Farsi) course, so many parents look for another way. Alefba is a free Persian course made for children, focused on the everyday Persian spoken at home. Alefba isn't connected to Duolingo.
How it works
- It runs in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer. There's nothing to install and no account needed for the lessons.
- Short lessons, a few minutes each, with a daily goal and review of the words your child finds tricky.
- Your child's name and progress stay on your own device. Alefba has no ads and no tracking.
